Mr Mohammed Abo -Khatwa
NCI Deputy Clinical Lead for ENT
Mr Mohammed Abo-Khatwa is a Substantive Consultant ENT Surgeon at Royal Devon University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Mr Khatwa is a highly experienced Consultant ENT Surgeon and the Deputy Clinical Lead for ENT at NCI. With over 25 years of international ENT experience and an NHS consultant role based in Devon, Mr Khatwa brings deep surgical expertise and clinical leadership to support the safe and efficient delivery of NCI’s insourced ENT services across the UK.
He specialises in rhinology, sinus surgery, septoplasty, rhinoplasty, and paediatric otolaryngology. Mr Khatwa completed his medical degree in 1992 at the University of Alexandria and undertook advanced ENT training in North Wales and the Northwest of England. He achieved dual FRCS qualifications and gained specialist registration in otolaryngology following an accredited rhinology fellowship at Derriford University Hospital in 2014. Currently practising at the Royal Devon University Hospital, he is also an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer and ENT Specialty Lead at the University of Exeter Medical School. Mr Khatwa is deeply committed to education, training, and research, with multiple peer-reviewed publications in areas such as snoring disorders, sinus surgery, and sleep apnoea. He also regularly contributes to audit, clinical governance, and surgical innovation.
At NCI, Mr Khatwa provides clinical oversight and service assurance, helping to design and implement ENT pathways that are safe, scalable, and responsive to trust-specific requirements. His role includes supporting mobilisation, mentoring surgical teams, and working closely with trusts to align services with NHS targets and governance frameworks. With a reputation for surgical excellence, collaborative leadership, and a passion for quality improvement, Mr Khatwa is instrumental in delivering high-performing ENT services that reduce long waits and improve patient outcomes.
