NCI Deputy Clinical Lead for Breast

Dr Vasileios Korakis is an accomplished Consultant Breast Radiologist and the Deputy Clinical Lead for Breast Imaging at National Clinical Insourcing (NCI). With extensive experience leading NHS breast services, Dr Korakis plays a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care across NCI’s insourced breast imaging programmes.

Dr Korakis has held substantive consultant posts at prominent NHS Trusts including Guy’s & St Thomas’, Whittington Health, Queen Alexandra Hospital Portsmouth, and Dartford & Gravesham. He has developed a broad skill set encompassing symptomatic and screening mammography reporting, breast MRI, ultrasound-guided biopsies, VAB/VAE procedures, and localisation techniques including wires, Magseed, and RFID tags. He is also highly experienced in delivering one-stop triple assessment clinics and regularly contributes to multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings.

At NCI, Dr Korakis provides governance oversight, service mobilisation support, and clinical mentorship to radiology teams. His recent involvement at South Tees NHS Foundation Trust, alongside Clinical Lead Dr Mohamad Hajaj, has been instrumental in enhancing clinical governance, streamlining breast imaging workflows, and reducing long waits in both screening and symptomatic services.

A passionate educator, Dr Korakis is actively involved in training junior doctors, registrars, and advanced practitioners. His calm, consistent clinical approach and dedication to quality improvement make him a valuable asset in NCI’s mission to support elective recovery through safe and effective service delivery.
