Dr Mahmoud Bayat is a Substantive Consultant Anaesthetist at Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Dr Bayat is a highly experienced Consultant Anaesthetist and the Clinical Lead for Anaesthetics at National Clinical Insourcing (NCI), where he plays a vital role in ensuring the safe, effective, and seamless delivery of theatre insourcing programmes across NHS partners.
With over 20 years of clinical experience spanning the UK and Europe, Dr Bayat brings deep expertise in general and regional anaesthesia, critical care, and perioperative medicine. His particular strengths lie in Orthopaedics, Trauma, Obstetrics, and Pain Management—areas essential to high-volume elective recovery.
He currently holds a substantive consultant post at Dorset County Hospital and has previously led anaesthetic services across Peninsula NHS Treatment Centre and Yeovil District Hospital, where he also supported intensive care and emergency response teams. Internationally, he has delivered consultant-level care in Hungary and Sweden, enhancing surgical pathways across multiple specialities including vascular, neurosurgical, and ENT.
At NCI, Dr Bayat oversees anaesthetic governance, supports mobilisation of clinical teams into high-demand services, and ensures that all theatre projects adhere to the highest safety and clinical standards. His work directly supports NCI’s mission of delivering high-quality elective care safely, efficiently, and with full compliance to NHS frameworks.
Dr Bayat holds a PhD in Neuroanatomy and continues to contribute to education and training through regular attendance at national and international CPD events. His calm leadership, international expertise, and commitment to patient safety make him an integral part of NCI’s clinical leadership team.
