Respiratory Medicine is a high-demand specialty focused on the diagnosis and treatment of lung and breathing disorders. It covers a wide range of conditions, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), interstitial lung disease, lung cancer, sleep apnoea, tuberculosis, and acute respiratory failure.
NHS Trusts are facing unprecedented demand in respiratory services, particularly following the COVID-19 pandemic, with significant increases in referrals, long-term respiratory conditions, and the need for rapid lung cancer pathways. Backlogs in this specialty can lead to delayed cancer diagnoses, worsening of chronic conditions, avoidable admissions, and reduced patient quality of life.
At NCI, we understand that respiratory medicine requires consultant-led services, rapid access diagnostics, and strong integration with oncology, radiology, critical care, and community respiratory teams.
All services are delivered by Consultant Respiratory Physicians with extensive NHS experience, supported by respiratory specialist nurses, physiologists, and multidisciplinary colleagues.
